On Friday, after a poor 1-4 start to the 2012-13 season, the Los Angeles Lakers decided to fire head coach Mike Brown. Many NBA players and pundits from the east coast to the west are weighing in on the end of Brown’s tenure in LA, but the opinion that matters most is that of five-time NBA Champion shooting guard Kobe Bryant. Kobe doesn’t express his opinions on Twitter, but took time to post his reaction on Facebook. He had some nice things to
Source: Dwight Howard wants Phil Jackson — UPDATED
Dwight wants Phil! Dwight Howard has told the Los Angeles Lakers he wants them to bring back Phil Jackson as coach,’ a source close to the team tells SheridanHoops.com. With the Lakers having fired Mike Brown earlier today, speculation is running rampant about who the next coach will be. Jackson has been coach of the Lakers on two different occasions, and he remains romantically involved with Jeanie Buss, the daughter of Lakers owner Jerry Buss. Buss’ son, Jim, is expected to be the person
Video: Are the Los Angeles Lakers in trouble?
There’s two schools of thought on what may be wrong with the Los Angeles Lakers. The first is that the offseason acquisitions of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash created the customary overreaction from NBA fans – specifically Lakers fans – who had visions of 70-win seasons and dynastic dominance dancing in their heads. When the Lakers followed a winless preseason by losing their first three games – pretty much scuttling any talk of 70 wins – there was another obligatory overreaction. This
SH Blog: Lakers players wondering if Mike Brown is right for coaching job?
Fire Mike Brown. That has been the sentiment of many Lakers fans after watching their super team open the season with three straight losses. Don’t believe me? Bernucca: Lakers’ offense struggling with Ivy League courseload
You can point to a handful of reasons why the Los Angeles Lakers are on the verge of panic. Dwight Howard missed all of training camp and most of preseason recovering from back surgery. Kobe Bryant has a sprained foot that requires him to wear a walking boot. Steve Nash is out for a while with a fracture in his fibula. That lack of continuity led to 11 straight losses – all eight in the preseason, which the Lakers dismissed as games that don’t count,
Carmelo Stars For Knicks; Howard Leads Lakers
In the Sunday matinee, Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points and J.R. Smith was red-hot — 20 PTS, 9 REB in 35 minutes — to lead the Knicks to an easy win. In a great example of the new “position-less NBA,” Melo (admittedly a tall SF) actually played the 5 for a while, surrounded by guards. Jason Kidd had a nice afternoon: 12 PTS, 6 AST, 3 STL and two 3-pointers. The Sixers lost Jason Richardson to an ankle injury in the
Steve Nash has leg fracture, out at least a week
If you were thinking things couldn’t get any worse for the Lakers, well, you’re wrong. Point guard Steve Nash had an MRI on Saturday that revealed a fracture in his lower left leg that will keep him on the sidelines for at least another week. The team said Nash has a small fracture in the head of his left fibula, the result of a collision with Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard in Wednesday’s loss. Nash sat out Friday’s loss to the down-the-hall Clippers
SH Blog: Dwight and CP3 planned to team up, D-Wade thought Heat-Knicks should have been canceled
The NBA is a strange place sometimes. As this blog goes to press, the Bobcats and Rockets are undefeated, while the Lakers and Celtics are winless. We’re not even a week into the season, of course, but all 82 games count the same. Nick Gibson was a witness to James Harden’s 45-point outburst in Atlanta last night, and it’s up to the boss where to put The Beard in the debut of the MVP race rankings on Sunday.
