Haircut of the summer? We have a winner! Andrei Kirilenko, who opted out of a $10.2 million payday with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the hopes landing a three- or four-year deal, has agreed to join the Brooklyn Nets for a shade less than $3.2 million. How many millions did he sacrifice? To paraphrase you know who: “Not four, not five, not six …” No word yet on whether Mickhael Prokhorov slipped a bag of diamonds under the negotiating table. We wouldn’t put it
Hubbard: Can Dirk The Franchise Lure Talent to Dallas?
The myth died for good only two years ago, but it seems more distant than that because it was so silly. It’s unlikely that it will return, but then again, people are still looking for Big Foot, the Loch Ness Monster, mermaids and flying saucers. So who knows? Maybe at some point, some basketball idiot will call Dirk Nowitzki “soft” again. That person would indeed have to be an idiot. But then, that was always true. Those who preached such nonsense
Howard Ejected, Lakers Lose; Battle of NYC Tops Monday Afternoon Games
There’s plenty of NBA basketball on Martin Luther King Day, beginning at 1:00 EST. Several games are on national TV and League Pass will get a workout. Be sure to set your fantasy lineups early, as six of the nine games begin before 7:00 pm, the ‘normal’ start time on Monday evenings. [Read more…]
Clippers Maul Grizzlies; Durant & Westbrook Combine for 77 Points
Go figure. You take the great Chris Paul (kneecap) out of the Clippers lineup and they drop 99 on a very good defensive team. Eric Bledsoe (14 PTS, 4 AST, 3 REB, 2 STL) did a fine job filling in at PG and that talented L.A. bench did the rest, with 16 apiece from Matt Barnes and Jamal Crawford. [Read more…]
Mavs forward Marion out with sprained MCL
The Dallas Mavericks have been doing just fine without Dirk Nowitzki. Now we will see how they do without Shawn Marion. The Mavericks said Tuesday that Marion has a sprained MCL in his left knee and will miss at least three games before being re-evaluated. Marion suffered the injury in the third quarter of Monday’s 114-91 home win over Portland and did not return. Initially, the injury was not believed to be serious. According to the team, Marion had an MRI that confirmed
Fantasy: 2011-12 Second Half Stats

One of the markers that is sometimes unremarked, but that is helpful to use when studying players for drafting in fantasy is to look at what players did in the second half of the year before. This is particularly useful in predicting performance in the upcoming season for three reasons: players are likely to
Five reasons to feel positive about the Dallas Mavericks
(This is another in a series of 30 guest columns that will run in October, when optimism reigns supreme across the NBA. The theme will be “Five Reasons to Feel Positive About … ” We encourage you to follow the authors on Twitter and visit their sites. – CS) The early portion of the free agency period gave off the appearance that the sky was literally falling on the Dallas Mavericks. The chase to try to land Deron Williams fell short as
Real Injuries Hurt Fantasy Players Too
As we prepare for the big drafts in our main leagues this weekend, there is an all-star team of injured players clouding the old crystal ball. Derrick Rose, Stephen Curry, Dirk Nowitzki, Amare Stoudemire and Kevin Love are my starting five. You want defense? Sorry, this is the fantasy department. John Wall, Eric Gordon, J.R. Smith, Nene and Andrew Bogut are the second unit. Every one of those guys is draftable, depending on your league settings. Just not as high as usual.
