Even after a winning night, it’s hard not to think of what might have been. Scoring a personal-best 337 points, I finished ninth out of 1,769 entries in the DFBBC qualifier, good for a $75 consolation prize but awfully damn close to a trip to Las Vegas for the live final in March. In the $5K NBA Shot, the same lineup finished 11th among 2,790 teams to win $55 and my ‘backup’ team got $10 for 129th place. Throw in a couple
$5,000 DFBBC Qualifier Tonight For $150,000 Final
Tonight’s big event is a qualifying tournament for the $200,000 Daily Fantasy Basketball Championship. Each week you can win one of 15 trips to Las Vegas for the live DFBBC final in March 2013, where the winner gets $50,000 in cash and even last place is worth $1,500. There’s an additional $5,000 paid out in consolation prizes in each qualifier. It costs $10 to enter, but you can’t win the DFBBC if you’re not in it. Fan Duel Diary: Enjoy the Night Off
Congratulations to “ajhoff32” for scoring 309 points to win the $325 first prize in our $1,500 tournament last night. My team struggled in 69th among the 167 entries, as bargain picks Alexey Shved and Moe Harkless were disappointing. Down $16 now from the original $100 bankroll in Week 4, I’ll have to wait for tomorrow to get even, as there are no NBA games tonight. Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends and your loved ones. On Friday, there’s another DFBBC qualifier.

Fan Duel Diary: Load Up On Lakers
Before selecting individual players each night for daily leagues, I try to highlight certain games. On Monday night, I did not expect the Nuggets to play so well against the Grizzlies, and thought the Hawks would absolutely destroy the Magic. Wrong on both counts, so my ATL and MEM players were disappointing. Luck is also a factor; with a 9-man team you need everyone to produce, and I used Stephen Jackson, who suffered a broken hand. Needless to say, the week
Fan Duel Diary: Clean Slate in Week 4
Three weeks of playing in daily leagues has taught me one thing — it’s definitely not as easy as it looks. I’ve tried various sizes of leagues: 3-player, 5-player, right up to large tournaments. A $10 shot in the dark each Friday in the $5,000 qualifying tournament for the $150,000 DFBBC Final eats up ten percent of the budget; I tend to play in $1 and $2 contests with a few forays into the $5 level. When LeBron James plays, I’ve used
FanDuel Diary: Daily Leagues A Challenge
Congratulations to “tuuckk” whose team scored 263 fantasy points to win the $200 first prize in our Saturday Freeroll. It was a tough beat for “muggsy205,” who finished a strong second with 261 but earned nothing in the winner-take-all payout format. My team limped home 88th out of 146 entries, as “sure thing” Varejao was outplayed by Chris Kaman, who ironically had bombed in my Friday Freeroll lineup to cost me at least a consolation prize. Week 3 has been very
