Season-long unhappiness and the recent addition of Greivis Vasquez—who came in the Rudy Gay trade with the Sacramento Kings—to the Toronto Raptors backcourt now have point guard Kyle Lowry’s name being discussed in trade talks with the New York Knicks, among other potential suitors. The Knicks could use Lowry’s services with their leading point guard, Raymond Felton, having left hamstring problems that have lingered since the beginning of the season and now have him missing the next 2-3 weeks of action. Tweet of the Day: A Tale of Two NBA Quincys
Quincy is not the most common name among men in America. It actually ranks 633rd among male names in the U.S.. The most popular Quincy in American history is President John Quincy Adams, the sixth president in our nation’s history. There aren’t many men in the NBA that bear the name Quincy—only three, to be exact. Two of the three are actually in the NBA news this week. [Read more…]
SH Blog: Reactions to the Rudy Gay trade; Deron Williams on track to return soon
Leave it to the NBA’s reigning Executive of the Year to upstage Kobe Bryant’s return. Going into the Raptors’ game with the Lakers in the Staples Center, all the buzz was (rightfully) on Black Mamba’s return from a torn Achilles, but with the Raps shedding Rudy Gay’s contract, it seems like Kobe’s return has been kind of pushed to a side burner for now. Not the back burner, but it’s not all that’s getting talked about. [Read more…]
Tweet of the Day: Raptors Ditch Rudy Gay
Short, but not that sweet is the best way to describe Rudy Gay’s stint in Toronto. On Sunday evening his time as a Raptor officially came to an end. Rudy Gay has been traded to the Sacramento Kings along with Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray. The Toronto Raptors will receive Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes, reports Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc Spears of Yahoo. The past month has been rough on both Gay and the Raptors, as tension began
Kings to acquire Rudy Gay in seven-player deal
Rudy Gay, who has one of the most overbearing contracts in the NBA, reportedly has been traded for the second time in less than a year. Yahoo! Sports reported Sunday night that a seven-player deal is being finalized that would have the Toronto Raptors send Gay and the $37 million remaining on his contract to the Sacramento Kings. The report said the Kings would also get deep reserves Aaron Gray ($2.69 million) and Quincy Acy ($790,000), both of whom have deals that
SH Blog: Redick out six to eight weeks; Cavs to move Bennett to SF?
Earlier tonight, I managed to catch a good deal of the Warriors-Kings game. It was a tough one to pick a rooting interest in: the Warriors have been “my team” since my family left Toronto in 1999 (for Baltimore, and I’m not going to root for a team from DC), but Greivis Vasquez is my favorite basketball player by a pretty wide distance, and I’ve grown accustomed to always rooting for Greivis’ team. Also, their new coach has a great
Bernucca: No extensions will be best thing for Bledsoe, Vasquez
When the deadline for contract extensions came and went Thursday night, point guards Eric Bledsoe and Greivis Vasquez didn’t get paid. But don’t shed any tears for them. Because when the summer rolls around, they will get their money. And it might be GMs Ryan McDonough of Phoenix and Pete D’Alessandro of Sacramento who are crying. As reluctant as McDonough and D’Alessandro may have been to pony up for point guards with plenty to prove, they should have done so. Both GMs are
StatBox Breakdown: A Look At Who Got Extensions; and Who Didn’t
The deadline for teams to sign players from the draft class of 2010 to extensions came and went at the stroke of midnight ET on Nov. 1. Those who did not get extensions will be unrestricted free agents this summer. Six players received extensions, with three of them getting done during the offseason. Two more were completed during training camp and the last one was executed Thursday in Memphis, just hours before the deadline. Meanwhile, three other rumored extensions did not get
