Ever since reports surfaced that Metta World Peace would be amnestied by the Los Angeles Lakers, his name has been tied to one team that has shown the greatest interest in attaining the forward: the New York Knicks. Boston Celtics rookie big man from Gonzaga, Kelly Olynyk, may not have been turning heads in the Orlando Summer League with amazing athleticism, but he left his mark and certainly made an impression with his offensive skill. Not including Friday’s game, Olynyk had proven himself to be an effective scorer, averaging 19.5 points on 57-percent shooting to go along with eight rebounds and just over two steals in 26.5 minutes per contest. It had been widely believed throughout the league that the only realistic teams in the Howard sweepstakes were the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, with the Los Angeles Lakers being a hopeful third option. Howard also met with the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors, but no one really believed that they would be realistic candidates, despite various reports that the Warriors had made an enticing case for the coveted center. After the Celtics-Clippers deal stalled last night, today seemed like something of a letdown. Luckily, we’ve got Game 5 of the Finals to occupy our NBA-related attention.
