Hey everyone, I’m back in action this weekend. And what a story to welcome me back, too. A while back, Dennis Rodman visited Kim Jong-Un in North Korea, and this week, he went back. Once you think about it, this shouldn’t be all that surprising: like his father, Jong-Un is a big fan of the NBA, especially the 90’s Bulls (and also a big fan of looking at things). And the only 90’s Bull weird enough to want to go
SH Blog: Is Derrick Williams Safe In Minnesota? Could Durant Leave OKC? Hakeem Pays Tribute to Kobe
As glamorous as it may seem, the NBA can be a tough place to make it for certain players. Being in the league alone justifies your level of talent. But it takes more than talent to survive. Just ask J.R. Smith and Lamar Odom, two of the more talented players in the league who cannot seem to get out of their own way. While it may not be drugs that are bringing Minnesota’s Derrick Williams down, the former No. 2 overall draft pick
SH Blog: Jim Buss takes shot at Dwight Howard, Olajuwon says Howard is still raw
When certain NBA owners are unable to attain a coveted player via free agency, they seem to feel the need to lash out or downplay what that player meant to their franchise. Mark Cuban has done this a number of times: he said the Dallas Mavericks were better off by not signing Deron Williams in the summer of 2012, and basically said the same about Dwight Howard after missing out on the center this summer. We all know about the
SH Blog: J.R. Smith out for 3-4 months after patellar tendon surgery, Jennings to Detroit being discussed
Ever since reports surfaced that Metta World Peace would be amnestied by the Los Angeles Lakers, his name has been tied to one team that has shown the greatest interest in attaining the forward: the New York Knicks. ESPN has details: [Read more…]
Tweet of the Day: Kelly Olynyk
Boston Celtics rookie big man from Gonzaga, Kelly Olynyk, may not have been turning heads in the Orlando Summer League with amazing athleticism, but he left his mark and certainly made an impression with his offensive skill. Not including Friday’s game, Olynyk had proven himself to be an effective scorer, averaging 19.5 points on 57-percent shooting to go along with eight rebounds and just over two steals in 26.5 minutes per contest. That comes from a sample size of four Summer
Schayes: The Franchise Center is an Endangered Species
The Dwight Howard dramatics (but not the fallout) have finally ended after a two-plus year run with his commitment to the Houston Rockets. He has been the most sought-after free agent for the last 3 seasons because he is THE ONLY FRANCHISE CENTER IN THE NBA! What!?! [Read more…]
SH Blog: Warriors trying to clear salary cap to sign Howard, Evans to Pelicans in three-team deal
It had been widely believed throughout the league that the only realistic teams in the Howard sweepstakes were the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, with the Los Angeles Lakers being a hopeful third option. Howard also met with the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors, but no one really believed that they would be realistic candidates, despite various reports that the Warriors had made an enticing case for the coveted center. SH Blog: No progress on Doc to Clippers, but it’s not over; Lakers still think they’ll keep Howard
After the Celtics-Clippers deal stalled last night, today seemed like something of a letdown. Luckily, we’ve got Game 5 of the Finals to occupy our NBA-related attention. If the Spurs lose, they go to Miami down 3-2 for games 6 and 7. Is this really the best format? Jan Hubbard doesn’t think so.
