When we wrote last month that the Western Conference playoff picture would be filled in by the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves, it was assumed that both teams would have their alpha dogs at power forward. Now that Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Love are both out until at least December, that picture could be changing. Nowitzki and Love both are top-10 players whose presence instantly legitimizes their teams as playoff-worthy, regardless of the other 14 players sharing a locker room and airplane with them.
Sanford: Linsanity 2.0. The latest from Houston, where Jeremy is struggling
The Houston Rockets have dubbed their 2012-2013 season “The New Age.” It couldn’t be more evidenced than by a ride around town … a glimpse at the media guide … a glance at their pocket calendar. No, they are not promoting Kevin Martin. The guys on that there billboard are Jeremy Lin, of course, along with Chandler Parsons and two of Houston’s warehouse full of rookies, Donatas Montejunas and Royce White. The 2011-12 team that flamed out so badly at the end of
Diminished expectations for Love and Lin; Not so for Knicks
// At the top of our 2012-13 NBA wish list is the cessation of the overuse of the word “Linsanity.” We had enough of that last year, IMHO, and Lin should drop off the national radar once the fallout from his GQ cover article begins to subside. He was recently featured in a GQ article detailing his offseason experience, going from a New York Knickerbocker to a Houston ‘Rocket Man.’ He tweeted his

Sheridan: Lakers are Most Improved; Rockets are “Bobcat material”
// I am not alone in calling the L.A. Lakers the Most Improved Team in the NBA, and I have gone so far as to say I believe they can win 70 games. (Thanks to all of you who have voted in our polls for how many games the Lakers and Heat will win.) But what about the other end of the spectrum? My pick is the Houston Rockets as the team Most Likely to Resemble the Charlotte Bobcats. That’s what happens
