It’s been a very interesting week in the Association. Aside from the obvious jostling in our weekly free agent rankings, the Miami Heat have now won 18 games in a row and have our very own Chris Sheridan wondering whether or not they can challenge the NBA’s all-time winning streak of 33 consecutive games. That record belongs to the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers, who began their championship season by winning every game they played in November and December. [Read more…]
Sheridan Hoops Sixth Man Rankings: Week 18
Finally, a chance for some our candidates for the Sixth Man Award to get time in the national spotlight. With TNT airing two extra games Tuesday, the week was filled with national TV showcases. While some candidates were able to step up, others didn’t look quite as prepared. While it’s likely that the televising network didn’t have much to do with their success, or lack thereof, the difference in production for a couple players seemed to change when the likes of
Five Fast Facts From NBA Games 3.4.13
With only seven games on the NBA schedule Monday night, the focus was on the Miami Heat and its pursuit of a franchise record 15th consecutive win in Minnesota. It wasn’t the only action worth watching however, as the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers had their eye on the Utah-Milwaukee game, which carried heavy playoff implications for both teams. Tweet of the Night: J.J. Redick
The Milwaukee Bucks are 3-1 since J.J. Redick was acquired in a trade with the Orlando Magic, the latest victory coming in overtime Saturday night against the Toronto Raptors, 122-114. Redick scored 16 points in 35 minutes off the bench, and the Bucks moved within 1 1/2 games of the Boston Celtics for the coveted No. 7 spot in the East. (They have already clinched the season series against the Celtics.)

When February turns into March, the hope for all NBA coaches is that their teams will be fresh and up to the challenge of competing for respect around the league (relatively speaking for each team, of course). Sometimes things just happen that the neither the coaches nor the players can expect or account for. In a lot of cases, after the All Star break, some players who were on a roll can run into problems. [Read more…]
Fantasy Spin: Wizards Win Again; Hobbled LeBron Triple-Doubles
Sure, LeBron James had a triple-double on one good leg, but the top fantasy basketball story is Chris Sheridan finishing 12th out of 18 in the $22 Challenge. Thinking the Pistons might show up to defend their home court, he used two potential bargains — Jason Maxiell and Viacheslav Kravtsov — who did very little. “PrincessDuckling” won the $180 first prize, “tommyboy42609” earned $112 for second and “mr92,” the only person who doubled his chances of winning by entering two
Redick will help Bucks; Celtics shouldn’t start Crawford
Some would say that this year’s trade deadline was all about who didn’t get traded. Josh Smith will ride out the season eating conch salad in Atlanta. Boston’s legends will try extract one more extended playoff run, and Utah elected not to mess with its team on a winning streak despite a young core and two valuable assets on expiring contracts. But we’re here to talk about a select quartet among the 27 players dealt on Wednesday or Thursday from a statistical
Fantasy Spin: Win $100 Cash For Free Tonight; Spurs Sink Clippers
As overhyped events go, the 2013 NBA trade deadline was no Mayan Apocalypse or Y2K Bug. A few deals actually happened, if not the blockbusters many of us were expecting. [Read more…]
