A new day, a new year. That’s what the Clippers hope as they host undefeated Portland tonight at 9:30 to kick off 2012. The honeymoon is over for the Clippers as they look to right the ship after a 1-2 start to a season filled with extremely high expectations. The buzz created by trading for one of the league’s premier point guards, Chris Paul, quieted Friday when Chicago came into the Staples Center and unleashed Derrick Rose. The Bulls’ own star
Hamilton column: Baron Davis willing (and more able than believed) to join Knicks
NEW YORK — It’s been a long seven days for the New York Knicks. After their bold and surprising move to land Tyson Chandler last Thursday, interim general manager Glen Grunwald has been hard at work trying to build a formidable team around New York City’s newest skyline. As it stands, the projected starting lineup will feature arguably the league’s best front court, but a somewhat inexperienced backcourt. So call it tampering, or call it recruiting. But whatever the case, James is making the countdown to settlement day all the more interesting. From Ira Winderman of the South Florida
Bernucca column: Top 20 free agents
By Chris Bernucca We all remember last year’s free agency extravapalooza – LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh heating up South Beach, Amar’e Stoudemire making the Knicks relevant, Dirk Nowitzki and Paul Pierce making career commitments to their teams and Joe Johnson landing the biggest contract of them all. Next year could be a quality sequel, with a star-studded cast that includes Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Ray Allen, Jason Terry, possibly Jameer Nelson and Gerald Wallace, and oldies but goodies Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Steve
