There are many tragedies in life that many hope to never have to experience. One of the saddest realities in life is that of a parent outliving their child. There are also many things—evil, terrible things—that no one should ever have to bear in life. The worst of which, perhaps for a parent, is harm inflicted on their child at the hands of a criminal—whether verbal, physical or sexual abuse or even abduction or death. The burden of knowing that your child suffered such
Heisler: 10 Predictions for the 2013-14 Season
Counting down to the exciting 2013-14 season … And counting, and counting, and counting. The preseason may be on, but I’m holding the excitement until something happens. By that I mean something bigger than media day, where all involved tell us what they’d like most, as if sitting in Santa Claus’ lap, asking for a pony. The tipoff is they have media day in Charlotte, and everyone is just as optimistic there. Personally, I try to measure my (yawn) excitement level, according to the
May: 10 Predictions for the 2013-14 Season
Two significant things will happen this NBA season: David Stern will step down as commissioner, probably five years too late. And for the first time in 20 years, the 76ers, Celtics and Lakers all will be out of the playoffs. We know the first to be true. The second is pure conjecture, but it’s more likely than not that three of the top NBA franchises in terms of tradition, history, titles and outsized personalities will be booking trips to ping-pong festivities
Bernucca: 10 Predictions for the 2013-14 Season
This is the time of year where everyone and their mothers offer up a series of fearless prognostications about the upcoming NBA season. Here’s what I can tell you about my skills at predicting the future. If I was really any good at it, I wouldn’t be wasting it on the NBA season. And neither would anyone else. I am not reading tea leaves, interpreting tarot cards, gazing into crystal balls, holding seances, poring over analytics or buying classified information on the

The other reason, the real one, could potentially spell the end of NBA coaches’ Hack-A-Dwight strategies, and propel the Houston Rockets center, Dwight Howard, up into the top echelon of the NBA’s elite. What is the big deal? [Read more…]

Tweet of the Day: Daryl Morey leading Houston to greatness
The Houston Rockets have themselves a winner with general manager Daryl Morey. He’s been at the forefront for Houston in landing Dwight Howard in free agency and pulled off a trade to score James Harden. Morey now has a team that is in championship talks for the first time since he became GM in 2007. It’s quite obvious he’s loving the extra attention and is excited to get his two stars on the court together. Ok, that picture is amazing @JHarden13 @DwightHoward
SH Blog: Howard wants DPOY again, Cousins agrees to four-year deal with the Kings
Dwight Howard’s reputation took a major dive over the past couple of seasons due to all the drama surrounding his status as a free agent and his indecisive behavior. It didn’t help that his level of play dropped a notch after joining the Los Angeles Lakers last season after undergoing back surgery. Rather than receiving praise for stepping up and playing earlier than he was supposed to, he was scrutinized for being part of an underachieving team. Now that Howard has
