It’s now or never for Deron Williams to prove he is worthy of being the $100 million face of the Brooklyn Nets. Is Williams still an elite point guard? Is he a winner? Or is he the reason his coaches are sent packing and his teams don’t quite measure up? Despite a blockbuster trade to acquire Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, who have championship rings and 25 combined All-Star selections, it is Williams who holds the key to Brooklyn’s title hopes. Consider this: Brooklyn
Tweet of the Day: Magic Johnson Believes in Brooklyn
Earvin “Magic” Johnson has no reason to praise the Brooklyn Nets being a lifelong Los Angeles Laker, however, he did offer up some kind words to the Nets. Johnson has, himself, admitted that the Lakers will struggle this year after losing Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace in the offseason. Their losses are compounded by the uncertain future surrounding Kobe Bryant’s Achilles injury. The Brooklyn Nets probably have the most talent and could possibly win the NBA Championship. — Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson)
Key to Brooklyn’s Title Hopes May Come off Bench
BROOKLYN — The Nets’ blockbuster move to acquire Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry stole headlines, but it says here the bench unit will be the steal of the summer at the season’s conclusion. Garnett is the team’s elder statesman, ranking sixth all-time with 47,801 minutes played over 19 seasons. Paul Pierce, Garnett’s counterpart, will be 36 when the season starts. The person taking the identity of another person for one reason or another is known as a catfish, and they can apparently get to anyone: even an NBA star like Chris Andersen, aka Birdman. You may have heard in the past that Andersen was

Without it, you might not be good enough to stick around in the league, and that is especially true if you come with baggage. At this point in his career, Michael Beasley is that guy – a pretty good scorer that doesn’t defend
Knicks’ J.R. Smith suspended 5 games
New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith has been suspended five games by the NBA for violating the anti-drug program. The NBA made the announcement Friday, continuing a string of off-court news for Smith, the reigning Sixth Man Award winner. Two days after winning the Sixth Man Award, Smith was suspended one game for elbowing Boston Celtics guard Jason Terry in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series. Upon his return, he shot just 29 percent (34-of-117) – including 13-of-50 from 3-point range
SH Blog: Stern Tries to Settle New York/Brooklyn Feud
NBA commissioner David Stern has been behind, and orchestrated, much of the drama that has filled the NBA over the last several decades. Most recently we have seen his fingerprints all over the bizarre Chris Paul veto, the NBA lockout, the Tim Donaghy scandal and implementing the dress code. But now, much like a Vince McMahon WWE storyline, Stern’s role in the show has taken a twist. [Read more…]
