The San Antonio Spurs continue to be pioneers the modern NBA. This afternoon, a day after the San Antonio Stars announced the impending retirement ceremony for WNBA veteran Becky Hammon upon completing her 16th season, the five-time NBA champion Spurs trumped that news with something more historic and nearly unprecedented. They hired Hammon as their newest assistant coach, joining European legend Ettore Messina who was hired earlier this offseason. [Read more…]
Bernucca: Like many adored stars, Wade gets a pass
When you’re an adored star in this league, you get a pass on a lot of things. And Dwyane Wade got a pass for an absolutely rockhead play in Miami’s inexplicable loss to Boston on Saturday. The Heat led by four with less than two seconds to play. On their home floor. Against the Celtics. And lost. In regulation. The Bernucca List – Edition 43
No, I didn’t answer my own question. What fun would there be in that? That would be like throwing a surprise party for yourself. Fantasy Spin: Friday April 27
Congratulations if you were a winner last night. I’m pleased with my results, including a couple of championships. There’s also Fantasy Postseason if you like the idea of drafting a team and collecting points
News, Notes, and Rumors from around the NBA: April 12, 2012.
NOTES Paraphrasing Yogi Berra, it’s getting dark early for the Miami Heat (40-16) as it tries to secure the top seed in the Eastern Conference, with the Chicago Bulls (44-14) owning a three-game cushion. The Heat, however, still has some time to turn back the clock, beginning tonight when it visits the front-running Bulls (8 p.m. ET, TNT). The teams will play once more, in Miami, April 19. They have split the first two games of their regular-season series. The Heat
Tonight’s best game: Miami at Chicago
If recent history is of any indication, tonight’s matchup between two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference promises to be a close contest filled with intensity and playoff atmosphere. The two rivals meet in another rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference finals as the two-time MVP LeBron James and the Miami Heat visit the reigning MVP, Derrick Rose, and the Chicago Bulls in tonight’s best game. Last season, Chicago took all three meetings between the teams in the regular season
Fantasy Spin: Thursday, Jan. 12
Highlight Performances: DeMarcus Cousins, SAC– The former 5th overall pick from a year ago has been a tremendous big man as of late. He posted his 4th straight double-double Wednesday Night, and it was a huge one. He scored 21 points, and grabbed 19 boards. Cousins is shaping out to be one of the best centers in the league at a very young age, and seems to have a very bright future; [caption id="attachment_5047" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Cousins, in just his second year,
