The deadline for teams to sign players from the draft class of 2010 to extensions came and went at the stroke of midnight ET on Nov. 1. Those who did not get extensions will be unrestricted free agents this summer. Six players received extensions, with three of them getting done during the offseason. Two more were completed during training camp and the last one was executed Thursday in Memphis, just hours before the deadline. Meanwhile, three other rumored extensions did not get
SH Blog: Raptors will move “anyone but Valanciunas”; will Ricky Davis get buckets in the D-League?
We’re still in the first week of the season, but a few things are already clear: Michael Carter-Williams can play, the Warriors are fun to watch, and the Clippers you know and love are still the Clippers you know and love. As long as you only started watching them when Chris Paul showed up. [Read more…]
Extension Deadline Here For 2010 NBA Draft Class
As you can see, Memphis Grizzlies small forward Quincy Pondexter had quite a treat waiting for him on Halloween. That’s Pondexter, a member of the 2010 draft class, signing his contract extension, reportedly worth $14 million over four years. Pondexter became the sixth member of the 2010 draft to get an extension, and might be the last. Teams have until midnight ET to lock up players drafted three years ago with long-term contracts, and no one else seems close to a deal. Pondexter
NBA Proposition Bets: A Different Angle
In the past few weeks I have written columns on the NBA futures market (to win the championship) and over/unders on regular season win totals, which is always something that intrigues not only bettors, but fans, too, because it gives them a barometer for how their team may perform in the upcoming season. The last item on the menu before the regular season starts next week is some of the more exotic proposition bets on the NBA betting menu which get
Preseason Playoff Picture: Eastern Conference
Who is crashing the playoff party in the East this season? Conventional wisdom says the two-time defending champion Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are head and shoulders above the rest of the Eastern Conference and – barring a disaster – will secure the top five spots. Heisler: 10 Predictions for the 2013-14 Season
Counting down to the exciting 2013-14 season … And counting, and counting, and counting. The preseason may be on, but I’m holding the excitement until something happens. By that I mean something bigger than media day, where all involved tell us what they’d like most, as if sitting in Santa Claus’ lap, asking for a pony. The tipoff is they have media day in Charlotte, and everyone is just as optimistic there. Personally, I try to measure my (yawn) excitement level, according to the
Eisenberg: Projecting Dennis Schröder’s Translation to the NBA with Analytics
In Elton Brand’s 14 NBA seasons, the two-time All Star has played alongside some of the league’s most respected point guards. From Sam Cassell to pre-injury Shaun Livingston to Andre Miller to Jrue Holiday, Brand has grown accustomed to excellence from his floor generals. So when Brand signed with Atlanta over the summer and was told to check out the highlight reel for his new teammate, a 19-year-old who had been nicknamed “Baby Rondo,” he was understandably skeptical of the moniker. “People
SH Blog: LeBron wants to be the greatest of all time, Kobe says he and Howard were never going to work
NBA Media Day is in full swing for teams all around the league, which means plenty of status updates on players, coaching plans, headline-worthy quotes and more. There’s a lot of ground to cover, so we’ll get right to it: Danny Ainge realizes that the Celtics roster needs work, from Mark Murphy of Boston Herald: “The C’s are loaded at both forwards spots with Green, Brandon Bass, Gerald Wallace and (for now) Kris Humphries. Green’s versatility could actually find the scorer
