LAS VEGAS– In a free agency period where LaMarcus Aldridge took what seemed like two dozen meetings and DeAndre Jordan’s recruiting process turned into the most bizarre sequences in years, the Toronto Raptors lured prized wing DeMarre Carroll away from the Atlanta Hawks before he left to meet with anyone else. So how did they do it? Well, $60 million over four years certainly helped. But it was more than that. Sheridan: LVP Rankings, a.k.a. the Worst of the Worst
The MVP debate is a great one this season, and as I mentioned in my most recent edition of my MVP rankings: This is one season when things could truly go down to the wire. As in Game No. 82. But what about the other end of the spectrum? Who have been the Least Valuable Players? Photo of the Day: Raptors Rookies Stay Warm Up North With Help of Vets
Much like the New Orleans Pelicans rookies, the Toronto Raptors rookies get their share of hazing. This type of treatment towards the newcomers apparently happens up in Canada too. Instead of making them carry around girly luggage, the Raptors vets were a bit more caring in that their gifts for the rooks will help keep them warm in the cold Canadian climate. The Sixers have made waves with their willingness to rebuild by all means necessary, so nothing GM Sam Hinkie does should come as a huge surprise. Still, for a rebuilding club, the prospect of trading the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year would certainly raise a few eyebrows. According to Zach Lowe of Grantland, Philadelphia tried to do exactly that by shopping Michael Carter-Williams heavily during the 2014 NBA Draft back in June. [Read more…]
