LAS VEGAS – Day 1 of Team USA’s training camp was point guards. Day 2 is frontcourt bigs. Right now, it seems as though the consensus is condor-like Anthony Davis is the only sure thing to make the 12-man roster going to Spain for the World Cup. After that, everything else is up in the air. The other candidates are power forwards Kenneth Faried and Paul Millsap and centers Andre Drummond and DeMarcus Cousins. And the guy I want to talk about is

On Tuesday, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar announced that he would help train Roy Hibbert to become a more dominant player in the league next season. Two days later, that plan appears to be well underway: Roy Hibbert, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, GM Kevin Pritchard & Donny Walsh at Pacers Fieldhouse http://t.co/LejG5xTE31 — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (@kaj33) July 25, 2014 Andrew McCarthy trains with Roy Hibbert under The Caps guidance http://t.co/Ek1XytOU0f — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (@kaj33) July 25, 2014 #royhibbert55 great practice makes for lots of baskets http://t.co/Lme2sgXPZT — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (@kaj33) July
Tweet of the Night: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to help Roy Hibbert with post game
Few players struggled as much as Roy Hibbert did on offense last season, and the Indiana Pacers intend to do something about it over the summer. For the past few weeks, rumors have circulated that the Pacers are quietly exploring the option of trading Hibbert. Larry Bird, however, may be looking to give his starting center a chance to improve by working with the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The trio enjoyed a night out on Tuesday, and Abdul-Jabbar announced after that he would
Tweet of the Day: Twitter Support for Michael Cooper
Former Los Angeles Lakers guard and current WNBA Atlanta Dream head coach Michael Cooper has been diagnosed with early stage tongue cancer. The Dream announced that Cooper will undergo surgery at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta this week. The doctors expect a full recovery — typical recovery time is two weeks. Bernucca: Nowitzki Not Properly Recognized as an All-Time Great
For the third straight year, the Dallas Mavericks went into the summer trying to snag a superstar to line up alongside Dirk Nowitzki. Two years ago, the Mavericks went after All-Star point guard Deron Williams, who took a pass on playing in his home state with no local income taxes and re-signed with the Brooklyn Nets. The consolation prizes were Elton Brand, Chris Kaman and O.J. Mayo. Last year, the target was All-Star center Dwight Howard, who stung the Mavericks by signing
Hubbard: Magic Johnson could “Lakerize” the Clippers
The procedure to terminate Donald Sterling’s ownership of the Clippers has produced a number of amusing ironies. When the 30 NBA team executives vote on June 3, Sterling cannot vote. Even though he still owns the team, he has been banned for life under NBA bylaws. The league has appointed Dick Parsons, who once was chairman of Time-Warner, to run the Clippers. So how do you think Parsons will vote? That means Sterling’s banishment from the league will likely be by a
SH Blog: Rivers declines to speak with Sterling, Clippers losing sponsorship deals, Mark Jackson says fans should boycott Game 5
Before getting into the filthy situation of Donald Sterling and the Los Angeles Clippers (and there is a lot to get into), we’ll start off with this: may the great Dr. Jack Ramsay rest in peace. The legendary coach passed away on Monday, making it a truly sad day for so many around the league. He was a basketball genius and an inspiration to the absolute best: [Read more…]
Bernucca: Who Is On Your Team’s Mount Rushmore?
This past week, NBA TV released excerpts of an extended interview with LeBron James (airing in its entirety Monday night) in which Steve Smith asked “The King” to name his Mount Rushmore of basketball. James offered a quartet of Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson. But it’s really an unfair question, because in addition to those four players, there are at least three more – centers Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Russell – who are in the
