Fantasy Spin: September 16, 2012
(The start of the NBA season is still six weeks away. But we are already filing Fantasy stories each and every day, with a staff that has tripled to three. For previous entries, click here.) SG Tiers Shooting guards are a prime source of points and threes to fantasy owners, but the most valuable ones do other things well. This is not as strong a position as PG, ranked by tiers earlier. There’s more uncertainty surrounding the very best SG, and the
Bernucca: NBA playoff races are 16 days to glory, for some
Sixteen days to glory. The title of Bud Greenspan’s documentary of the 1984 Olympics also is fitting for the NBA season, which has just 16 days remaining and a dozen playoff spots still up for grabs. For argument’s sake, we’re going to assume middle-of-the-packers Indiana, Boston, Atlanta and Orlando will eventually clinch berths in the Eastern Conference, while the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis will sew up spots in the West. The two teams faced off last Saturday in a game filled with playoff intensity. The only other player to do so is Dennis Johnson, who recorded 675 at the same height. Joel Anthony now has 2+ blocks in eight straight games. The last Heat player to do so was Alonzo Mourning in December, 2005. Pacers F Jeff Foster announced his retirement before
Fantasy Spin: Thursday March 15
In our Trade Spin, it doesn’t matter which NBA team wins or loses a deal, it’s about taking advantage either way in your league(s). The usual format, with info and opinions on each game before (and after) they are played, is on hold for a couple of days. Klay Thompson is already on fire as the new SG for the Warriors, with three triples and 26 points in over 40 minutes last night. Monta Ellis should maintain his fantasy value with
Friday’s game of the night: Denver at Houston
The Rockets have struggled offensively out of the gates after the All-Star break. Facing the Nuggets at home may just be the cure they needed, because Denver is the worst defensive road team in the league. The Houston Rockets (21-15) look to regain their offensive form against the Denver Nuggets (19-17) as both teams fight for playoff positioning in the Western Conference in Friday’s game of the night. The odds favor Houston (the line is 3.5) as they sit 15-4 at home this
