The NBA season is less than 24 hours away now. The New York Knicks are apparently not happy with their final roster. They traded Travis Outlaw to the Philadelphia 76ers for Arnett Moultrie on Monday, in which they immediately waived him. The Knicks felt the need to add one more player after they waived Moultrie. No, it’s not Travis Wear. It’s Taylor Swift. Okay, obviously not for real. But, honestly, she’s probably taller than Shane Larkin, one of their backup guards..
Tweet of the Day: Twitter Support for Michael Cooper
Former Los Angeles Lakers guard and current WNBA Atlanta Dream head coach Michael Cooper has been diagnosed with early stage tongue cancer. The Dream announced that Cooper will undergo surgery at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta this week. The doctors expect a full recovery — typical recovery time is two weeks. Assistant coach Karleen Thompson will assume coaching duties while he is out. Cooper remained optimistic and confident in the Emory medical staff. [Read more…]
Scotto: Jason Kidd Burns Brooklyn Bridge With Nets
Jason Kidd didn’t just burn a bridge with the Nets. He basically set it ablaze with an entire gas station’s fuel supply. Once groomed to be the face of the franchise, Kidd will now have all his images removed from Barclays Center – perhaps even his retired jersey hanging from the rafters. [Read more…]
Tweet of the Day: NBA Finals Game 1 Anticipation From Around the League
Game 1 of the 2014 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs tips Thursday night at 9:00 PM. If you’re looking forward to watching it in hopes of getting some exciting NBA action, you’re not alone. After last year’s Finals that featured two amazing finishes—Tony Parker’s bank shot to secure a four-point victory in Game 1 or Ray Allen’s three-point shot, perhaps the shot heard round the world, in Game 6 to force overtime, everyone is hoping for
Tweet of the Day: Player Reactions To All NBA Teams
Wednesday the All-NBA Teams were announced, and with them came a slew of congratulatory, confused and frustrated tweets. Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant led all vote getters as the lone unanimous selection to the First Team, followed by Miami Heat forward LeBron James, Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah, Houston Rockets guard James Harden and Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul. Much to the chagrin of 124 NBA writers with voting privileges, Chris Sheridan, our esteemed Editor-in-Chief, was the lone vote preventing
Tweet of the Day: NBA Athletes and Personnel Honor American Legend Maya Angelou
An American legend died. No, we’re not talking about someone from the NBA or even the professional sports industry. However, her—yes HER, impact has crossed all sorts of socio-economic barriers—racial; gender; lower-, middle- and upper-class. Her works, as a poet and author did not just bring her critical acclaim and recognition. Her work helped inspire and mold minds. Dr. Maya Angelou, who was born April 4, 1928, died in her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina early Wednesday. She was 86 years old. Her
SH Blog: Pera ousts Levien and Lash, Phil Jackson open to talk to Mark Jackson, Taylor not ready to trade Love
Despite trading away Rudy Gay last season, the Memphis Grizzlies remained a very good team in the Western Conference this season. Their record of 50-32 didn’t quite measure up to that of recent years, but that could be attributed to missing Marc Gasol for a quarter of the season due to a knee injury. Bottom line, though, is that they were out after the first round of the playoffs after taking the Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games. They would have
PODCAST: Knicks Coaching Search Should be Focused on Mark Jackson
I have already written a column imploring the Knicks to hire Mark Jackson and hire him immediately, which will turn Steve Kerr into Steve Who? The New York Times is reporting today that there are three primary candidates, Brian Shaw (who already has a job with the Nuggets), Luke Walton (who has never coached before), and Kurt Rambis, an assistant with the Lakers. The New York Daily News says also in the mix is Derek Fisher, who can’t really be interviewed right now given
