On Sunday, the NBA started an hour before the NFL with the New York Knicks hosting the Indiana Pacers. The Knicks were coming off their first loss of the season Friday at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies. They made sure that wasn’t going to happen again, outclassing the Pacers in an 88-76 victory. SH Blog: D’Antoni introduced as coach, says Howard can be in every play
We all have a general idea of what Mike D’Antoni wants to do as the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Get them to score a whole lot more, for one. D’Antoni is a well-documented offensive wizard, so if anyone can figure out how to best utilize the endless amount of talent on the roster, it would be him, no matter what Magic Johnson wants to say about it. We don’t know, however, of his plans in greater detail – mostly because we
Tweet of the Day: Magic Johnson
The power of sport is phenomenal. There are times when everyone who follows sports is captivated, inspired or awed…And there are times when we are all disappointed, disgusted, frustrated or saddened. It happens to everyone. It even happens to former Hall of Fame players.
SH Blog: Kidd’s efficiency at the SG slot propels Knicks
The New York Knicks are off to an overwhelmingly positive start, and it would be hard to say anybody saw this coming. New York has the oldest roster in NBA history combined with Amar’e Stoudemire, the $20 million per year power forward who is supposed to be the second-most offensively potent player on the team, out for an extended period of time. The team came into this season with an aged roster and skepticism looming over them from the outside. [Read

All the key players on the Lakers already have stated their endorsement of the coaching change that
SH Blog: Who’s telling the truth? Reactions about Phil Jackson and Mike D’Antoni from all parties involved
The Los Angeles Lakers fans and everyone else along the way were absolutely shocked very early on Monday morning, when Mike Bresnahan of Los Angeles Times reported that Mike D’Antoni – not Phil Jackson – would become the next head coach of Kobe Bryant and company. So what exactly happened? It was reported over the weekend that the Zen master and the Lakers met to discuss the coach’s possible return to the team after the firing of Mike Brown. The fact that
Jackson awakened by Lakers, told he didn’t get job
Phil Jackson released a statement Monday that said he was awakened at midnight Sunday by a phone call from Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak and told that Mike D’Antoni had been hired as coach. Jackson said he met with Kupchak and Lakers executive Jim Buss for 90 minutes on Saturday, during which no contract issues were discussed. His statement implies that his next contact with the team was Kupchak’s call. From Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times: “Saturday morning,
Stunner: Mike D’Antoni hired as coach of Lakers
Remember when we told you this might be more about Jim Buss than Phil Jackson? Turns out that may be a big reason why Mike D’Antoni signed a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers late last night, and why Phil Jackson will remain unemployed/semi-retired. The stunning news broke while most of California and the rest of America was asleep. [Read more…]
