With the opening of training camps in late September, there is now more offseason behind us rather than in front of us. With six weeks to go, many teams are looking to fill the final spot or two on their rosters. And as we pointed out last week, there is not much to choose from. Although there has been talk about some of these teams possibly adding another player, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Golden State, Indiana, the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis, New York, Oklahoma City
SH Blog: Was Matt Barnes stalked by a Manhattan Beach cop?
I do not usually write our blog, leaving that task in the capable hands of our bloggers, Jim Park and Dan Malone. But I also do not usually watch the Olympics on TV, especially not on NBC. I haven’t been on by sofa watching the Olympics since 1992, and back then I believe my sofa might have been a futon. But here I am back in New York after ditching the idea of going to London as uncredentialed media in the

The Bernucca List – Edition 27
Maybe it was the unrelenting schedule finally catching up to us. Maybe it was the hectic planning of last weekend’s trip to Philadelphia for an AAU tournament. Whatever the reason, we missed a week of The Bernucca List, and we apologize. Reader Technologic provided the right answer for last week’s list, which was “The last 10 players to lead their team in scoring in a road Game 7 win.” Congratulations, Technologic. Can we call you Techno for short? Onto this week’s list,
Ernst & Young improperly counts Most Improved Player voting
There was more than a little head-scratching when the Most Improved Player voting was released Friday. In addition to Ryan Anderson undeservedly winning the award, a scan of the balloting showed a single first-place vote going to Andrew Bogut. Bogut played just 12 games this season, driven to the sidelines by a pair of injuries. He also was dealt from Milwaukee to Golden State at the trading deadline. In addition, all of his numbers – except his formerly horrific free-throw shooting –
Sixers coach Doug Collins fined $15,000
Imagine how mad Doug Collins would have been had the Philadelphia 76ers lost. Collins was fined $15,000 for verbally abusing a referee as he left the Bankers Life Fieldhouse floor in Indianapolis on Saturday night – after his 76ers won, 109-106, in overtime. The fine was announced Monday by NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson. The Sixers held a three-point lead when Indiana’s Danny Granger missed a 3-pointer. There was some serious pushing and shoving underneath the basket, and Pacers
Bucks’ Sanders suspended 2 games, pair of Pacers fined
The Larry Sanders Show has been panned by the NBA. The forward of the Milwaukee Bucks was suspended two games without pay and Indiana Pacers forwards David West and Danny Granger were fined $25,000 apiece by the NBA on Friday for their roles in a skirmish in Thursday’s game. Sanders was suspended for Saturday’s game vs. New Jersey and Monday’s game vs. Toronto. The ban is for initiating an altercation, failing to leave the court in a timely manner and actions following
Playoff races tighten in West, not East
There were so many games last night (14) in the NBA, your fingers go calloused from switching the remote and your brain got scrambled by considering all the playoff possibilities. Bottom line: There are still eight nights left of regular season basketball, a lot can happen over those eight days, and we need to find a way to give you a synopsis of what’s up. To do that, we’ll focus today on the teams with 32-30 records. There are three of them, they
