Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward Kevin Love will miss six to eight weeks with a broken hand, the team announced Wednesday. According to a release from the team, Love fractured the third and fourth metacarpal in his right hand while working out. The plan is for the Team USA member to travel to New York on Thursday to be examined by hand specialist Dr. Andy Weiland at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Love’s injury could be devastating to Minnesota’s postseason hopes. A season ago, they were in

Fantasy Spin: September 25, 2012 – Part II
Northwest Division Fantasy Preview (Part II) For the introduction to this article and our comments on the Thunder and Nuggets see Part I. Utah Jazz Last year the Jazz surprised many by qualifying for the playoffs and again are viewed as a bubble team. The reason isn’t their talent level but how the pieces come together. Whereas the Denver Nuggets are an example of an ideal fantasy team, the Jazz resemble a poorly-built one. All their talent, depth and upside is concentrated in a
Forbes: 12 NBA owners among 400 richest Americans (Prokhorov not included)
Pity poor Paul Allen. He only came in at No. 20 on the Forbes list of the 400 Richest Americans. But at least he’ll have something to hold over the heads of the other owners when they convene next month for the Board of Governors meeting in New York (then again, Allen– worth 15 billion– may not attend. He usually sends someone in his place). The only owner who can flex muscles with him is Mikhail Prokhorov of the Brooklyn Nets, with $13.2
Preseason playoff picture: Western Conference
Think your team is making the playoffs in the West this season? If you don’t live in L.A., you sure about that? If your team is the Dallas Mavericks or Utah Jazz, you shouldn’t be so sure. The Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets are in. Each

(ESPN loathes him and fears him, FYI. And legend has it that Woj abhors the WWL — just a little inside info courtesy of this independent yet knowledgeable site). Woj’s latest scoop is a big one, because it ensures that every member of the
NBA Free Agency: Who Still Needs What?
With the opening of training camps in late September, there is now more offseason behind us rather than in front of us. With six weeks to go, many teams are looking to fill the final spot or two on their rosters. And as we pointed out last week, there is not much to choose from. Although there has been talk about some of these teams possibly adding another player, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Golden State, Indiana, the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis, New York, Oklahoma City
Future free agency: Who is the next Dwight Howard?
Are you happy that the interminable saga surrounding Dwight Howard’s next destination is mercifully over? Yeah, us too. Most NBA observers – and we’re talking about everyone from Commissioner David Stern to billionaire owners to sleep-deprived GMs to fellow superstars to media members to fans to forum flamers – are mentally moving on from Howard now that he finally has been traded from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Yes, there is a faction of folks who feel there may be
