Bad news for the Wizards, who have yet to see a minute of No. 3 pick Otto Porter. Here’s the press release: The Washington Wizards announced today that guard Bradley Beal has been diagnosed with a stress injury to his proximal right fibula. He will miss the next two weeks and then be re-evaluated. The injury was diagnosed by team doctors following an MRI exam on Monday after Beal experienced soreness in his right leg. Beal has appeared in all 13 games for the

I predicted a Timberwolves upset over the Pacers, but it was not to be. Paul George/IND and George Hill/IND were brilliant and a suffocating Indiana defense effectively cut off the Wolves’ outside shooting. It’s tough to win in the modern game if you can’t reliably make threes. Elsewhere , the Spurs and Pistons had no trouble with the Pelicans and Bucks respectively, while the Jazz came through with an overtime win over the visiting Bulls (visions of contention in Chicago
Schayes: Home (Team) for the Holidays
Happy Thanksgiving from the Marriott. As the marketers get more and more influence over the business that is the NBA, there are more and more changes that benefit the fans and the networks. They don’t benefit the players or their families very much … but that isn’t much of an issue. Lets face it. For most teams, it is getting harder and harder to find time to yourselves on TV. The NBA used to start training camp in the middle of September and

Sprung: Brooklyn’s struggles extend well beyond third quarters
BROOKLYN — Can one quarter ruin a basketball team’s season? It could if that 12-minute span of poor play happens over, and over and over again — compounding the many problems the team has overall. The Detroit Pistons outscored the Nets 34-15 in the third quarter on Sunday afternoon at the Barclays Center in a 109-97 loss that dropped Brooklyn to an almost unfathomable 3-10 on the season. In the Nets’ 10 losses, they’ve been outscored by a total of 96
Fantasy Spin: Monday, November 25, 2013
We witnessed two world class blowouts yesterday, as the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz were no match for the Los Angeles Clippers and the Oklahoma City Thunder respectively. The tightest game featured the visiting Suns ousting a determined Orlando Magic. The Pistons had too much talent for the Nets to handle, and the Kings’ lack of outside shooting doomed them against the Lakers. Tonight, there are nine games on the NBA schedule. Here is today’s Fantasy Spin. [Read more…]
Lakers sign Bryant to two-year extension
Kobe Bryant has signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, which means he likely will have a 20-year career. The Lakers did not announce financial terms. Bryant is the highest-paid player in the NBA this season, making $30.4 million. He and Michael Jordan are the only NBA players to make $30 million in one season. Bryant was eligible to receive 105 percent of his current salary, which would put his 2014-15 earnings at almost $32 million. However, reports out
Bernucca: With fundamentals, Spurs making NBA look like AAU
We are all familiar with the Spurs and their uncanny efficiency. Are you familiar with AAU basketball? I have coached it at the high school level for the last three years. And one thing I have learned is that with just four hours of weekly practice time followed by four games every weekend, if you don’t have definitive, well-drilled schemes on both offense and defense, you have no chance to compete. However, if you have a group that is committed to a
