There is, of course, the old adage that titles are not won in July (the Heat in 2010 being the clear exception) but several moves were made on Tuesday that could quietly alter the regular season standings out west next season. We’ve also seen shooters get large contracts this week like, it seems, never before. Those are the main two storylines from the July 2, but there’s a whole lot to get to before we all take a nice break for the
SH Blog: Clippers Continue To Make Noise; Wolves Land Kevin Martin; Lakers/Mavs Pitch Howard; Rondo/Granger Available
NBA free agency is officially in full swing. The biggest domino to fall in the first two days was also the leagues worst-kept secret, Chris Paul — No. 2 overall in Mighty Moke’s Free Agent Power Rankings — who re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers aren’t done, though, and they made more noise today with a trade that has helped reshape their roster in a much needed way: shooting. [Read more…]
Clippers land Redick, send Bledsoe to Suns in three-team deal
The Los Angeles Clippers entered this offseason needing more outside shooting and a reserve big who can score. One need down, one to go. In a three-team deal reported by Yahoo! Sports, the Clippers landed guards J.J. Redick from the Milwaukee Bucks and Jared Dudley from the Phoenix Suns. The Clippers sent young point guard Eric Bledsoe and veteran forward Caron Butler to the Suns and a second-round pick to the Bucks. The Suns also sent a second-round pick to the Bucks. Redick received
Bernucca: Kobe Bryant is the ideal amnesty candidate
There is a sneaky, devious way that the Los Angeles Lakers can re-sign Dwight Howard, continue to pay Kobe Bryant the NBA’s highest salary and create even more cap room for this summer and next summer. Use the amnesty provision on Bryant. Yes, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said in the days after Bryant tore his Achilles tendon that using the one-time provision – which 15 teams still have at their disposal – on the face of the franchise was not under consideration.
Here’s Why The Knicks Acquiring Andrea Bargnani Is A Gigantic Mistake
The Knicks should really stop trading with Masai Ujiri. Ujiri set the Denver Nuggets’ franchise in the right direction with the Carmelo Anthony trade with New York, and now he achieved something that was once considered nearly impossible not even a month into his tenure as the Toronto Raptors’ head of basketball operations: getting a first-round pick in exchange for Andrea Bargnani’s contract. The team taking on the last two years and roughly $23 million on Bargnani’s contract? The Knicks,
The Official 2013 Sheridan Hoops NBA Draft Trade Breakdown
Unpredictable. Chaotic. Climactic. Frenetic. Turbulent. These are just several words to describe Thursday night’s NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn. For the first time in a while, nobody had any idea what was going to happen. And from the first selection down to the humongous blockbuster trade that went down, the theater and drama of the 2013 draft more than made up for the lack of an impact player among this year’s talent pool. With very few surefire
Mock Draft 7.0: Noel rises to No. 2; Porter at No. 4; Oladipo drops to No. 7
As the NBA Draft approaches, the Cavs are still actively trying to trade the 1st overall pick, Washington seems determined to take Anthony Bennett of UNLV at No. 3 — which has led Charlotte to shop Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to make room for Otto Porter. Also, Kevin Love is once again being discussed as a trade candidate — to Cleveland, just as we reported in Mock 3.0.1 on May 29. [Read more…]
Mock Draft 6.0.1: Len Still No. 1, but Cavs Would Trade Pick
In three days the Cleveland Cavaliers will officially kick off the NBA Draft … unless a trade is agreed upon before then. And though the Cavs continue to work the phones in an attempt to trade their top pick, sources tell SheridanHoops that no team has yet put forth a package the Cavs find enticing — a lottery pick, and additional first-round pick (preferably in 2014), and a promising young player. As of Monday night, I’d say there is only a 20
