In the 2012 draft, Thomas Robinson and Damian Lillard could not have been closer together. Robinson went fifth to the Sacramento Kings and Lillard went sixth to the Portland Trail Blazers. In their rookie seasons. however, Robinson and Lillard could not be farther apart. To be fair, Lillard has had a better opportunity to show his wares. Portland basically gave him the point guard position with carte blanche to learn on the job, dumping everyone from last season except Nolan Smith. Robinson wasn’t
Bernucca: Are red-hot Clippers too flawed for NBA Finals?
After the Los Angeles Clippers demolished the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night for their franchise-record 13th straight win, there were two telling quotes coming out of the losing locker room. The first came from Suns coach Alvin Gentry, who was very impressed. “That is the best team we’ve played,” said Gentry, whose club has faced Miami, Memphis, New York and Golden State but has yet to play Oklahoma City or San Antonio. Kings reinstate DeMarcus Cousins
Apparently, “indefinitely” is a euphemism for “one game.” Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins, who was suspended indefinitely by the team Saturday, was reinstated Monday after missing one game. The Kings announced the reinstatement. Cousins practiced with the team Monday. Cousins was suspended Saturday, one day after he had a profanity-laced argument with coach Keith Smart during a loss to the Clippers and was ordered to remain in the locker room for the second half. It was the third suspension of the season for Cousins

We had no idea that it would become this competitive. After a brief absence, reader Brian Rivel has returned to provide the correct answer to last week’s list, which was “active players represented by agent Rob Pelinka.” It marked the third time this season Rivel has provided the correct answer. He answered two
Sheridan Hoops Rookie Rankings: Week Seven
Given his precocious play and the piles of praise he is receiving, Damian Lillard appears to have a stronghold on this season’s Rookie of the Year. And the calendar hasn’t even changed. Some of that recognition came recently from San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who along with a national TV audience watched the point guard light up his squad for 29 points last week. “I think he’s a wonderful player,” said Popovich, who normally isn’t prone to effusive praise. “His skills
Sheridan: Clippers are hot, Nets are not
The Los Angeles Clippers are Brooklyn Nets have always been treated like second-class citizens by NBA fans in their respective areas. The Clippers have long been the humorous alternative to the Lakers, while the Nets – whether in New Jersey or their new home – have been the running joke alongside the New York Knicks. [Read more…]
Most Improved Player Rankings: Week Seven
The race for this season’s Most Improved Player reminds me of one of those computer-simulated races that take place on the jumbotrons at arenas throughout the country. You know what I’m talking about. They’ve got the cute characters and cool animation, but they end up with more twists and turns than an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Most races go something like this: [Read more…]
