The NBA kicked off the New Year with just two games, but both were of an incredible caliber. Each were decided by five points or less, with late-game heroics and career-best performances ultimately saving the day. Here’s how it all transpired. [Read more…]
Sheridan: New Year’s Resolution’s for all 30 NBA Teams
The New Year begins with word that Cleanthony Early, Travis Wear and Quincy Acy have decided to give up pork as their New Year’s resolutions. A better idea might have been to play well enough to earn spots on next year’s Knicks team, which is the only thing New Yorkers want to talk about. Yep, just 10 short months until Opening Night, ’15-16. Around here, the idea of giving up bacon, one of the four major food groups, is almost as
LeBron Out 2 Weeks With Knee, Back Strains
Superstar LeBron James will miss at least two weeks while he recovers from knee and back strains, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced Thursday. The seemingly indestructible James sat out the last two games with what was called soreness in his left knee. He underwent a barrage of tests at the Cleveland Clinic that included an MRI and revealed strains to his left knee and lower back, the team said in a statement. Treatment will include anti-inflammatories, rehabilitation, training room treatments and rest. James’
Brumagin: Love Lost as LeBron Sits Out On 30th Birthday
ATLANTA — The Cavs may have to re-purpose an old Alfred Lord Tennyson quote: “‘Tis better to have [Kevin] Love and lost than to never have Love at all.” Not quite what Tennyson had in mind, but one might have asked such a question after the dismal performance the Cleveland power forward gave prior to leaving Tuesday’s marquee Eastern Conference matchup with the Atlanta Hawks. Love made only one of eight shots — a three-pointer — and hit four free throws for
Sprung: Deron Williams accepts Nets bench role, for now
Nets point guard Deron Williams is being paid $19,754,465 this season. That’s just over $240,908 a game and $60,227 a quarter. After a strong start to the season, Williams had a bad December hindered by a calf injury and was supplanted in the starting lineup by Jarrett Jack. Jack has thrived in his new role as a starter for Brooklyn, which has won four of five. With head coach Lionel Hollins all but saying that Jack will be the starter for the forseeable future, Williams

Earlier in December, Nike announced the release of the Kyrie 1, the first signature shoe of Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving. Teammate and two-time NBA champion LeBron James offered his support in an interview with Darren Rovell of ESPN at the time. It’s great. I’m happy for him. I was there as a friend, as a teammate, as a brother of his. I know what it’s all about. It’s a different feeling for him now. It’s a lot of pressure, too,
Bernucca: “They’re the Spurs” Might Not Be Enough This Season
Every time someone summons up the nerve to ask, “What’s wrong with the Spurs?” the defending NBA champions have provided an emphatic response: Nothing. They did it in November, beating the Clippers and Warriors on the road on consecutive nights after losses to Houston and New Orleans. They did it again in December, beating the Clippers to end a four-game losing streak that included back-to-back excruciating triple-overtime losses. And they did it again last night, beating the Rockets for the first time
