NEW YORK — Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young has been suspended one game without pay for throwing a punch at Phoenix Suns guard Goran Dragic with 7:33 remaining in the second quarter of the Lakers’ 121-114 loss to the Suns on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at US Airways Center, it was announced today by Rod Thorn, President, Basketball Operations. Suns center Alex Len, who was ejected for his Flagrant Foul 2 against Young, has been fined $15,000. Suns forward Marcus Morris
SH Blog: Young calls out teammates for lack of backup, Bulls want Stephenson as consolation prize
It didn’t necessarily have any marquee names, but a three-team trade that sent Jordan Crawford and MarShon Brooks to the Golden State Warriors was the talk around the league on Wednesday (before Nick Young threw some punches). See below for some insight and analysis on the who and the why: Chris Sheridan broke down what the trade does for each team involved. Bill Simmons shares his thoughts on the deal, from our Michael Brumagin. Members of Warriors World chime in on how Crawford
Tweet of the Night: Nick Young questions if Clippers will be any good in the postseason
The Los Angeles Lakers surprised everyone when the season started by beating the Los Angeles Clippers 116-103 on opening night. Bill Simmons couldn’t believe what he saw, and many pundits questioned if the Clippers were really going to be contenders this season. On Friday, the two teams met up for the second time this season and the results weren’t quite the same: the Clippers routed the Lakers 123-87 – the largest margin of victory ever against the Lakers in franchise history. It
Sixth Man Rankings: What Should Mo Williams Expect on the Free Agent Market?
To no one’s surprise, Mo Williams says he plans to opt out of his contract for next season and test free agency over the summer. Williams signed a two-year deal last summer worth $5.6 million, with 2014-2015 a player option. He was scheduled to make $2.7 million next season if he chose to opt into that deal. Portland, of course, has been the NBA’s most pleasant surprise this season and is tied for the third-best record in the league at 27-9. Williams has been a
PODCAST: Memo to Cavs and Chris Grant: Fleece the Lakers while getting Pau Gasol
The Pau Gasol-for-Andrew Bynum trade talks appear to be dormant but not dead. The Lakers would like to get another worthy asset thrown into in the deal … but so would the Cavs. And you know what? I have to side with the Cavs and general manager Chris Grant on this one. By taking Gasol’s $19.3 million salary off the Lakers’ books, they will drop Los Angels below the luxury tax threshold, saving the Buss family in the area of $20 million.
Sixth Man Rankings: How Westbrook’s Injury Impacts Jackson’s Chances
Just as Reggie Jackson looked to be solidifying himself as the NBA’s best sixth man, Russell Westbrook got injured again. Now, with Westbrook sidelined until at least the All-Star break, it’s unclear whether Jackson will remain eligible to win the award. After all, to even be considered for the Sixth Man Award, a player must start in no more than half of his appearances. Jackson has seven starts in comparison to 25 games off the bench. As of now, his eligibility isn’t
Eisenberg: Why Everything You Know About Nick Young is Wrong
The scorer still looks back nostalgically on those summer days in suburban Los Angeles when he would lace up his sneakers, put on his Lakers jersey and head out to the park. Adults and kids of the neighborhood would flock to the playground every afternoon to watch the human mirage in action. He stood tall at 6-6 and had confidence and moves that were better suited for the Staples Center’s hardwood than Reseda’s blacktops. From afar, if you didn’t know any better,
SH Blog: Dragic says Hornacek is “a great coach”; Horford unlikely to return for playoffs
The Andrew Bynum news is dominating the NBA today. Of course, this big news would break on a day I spent a good portion of in the car, driving from my grandparents’ place in New York to my parents’ house in Baltimore. So if you, like me, are still playing catch-up, here’s the basics: The Cavs suspended Bynum indefinitely for “conduct detrimental to the team” and it looks like he’s played his last game for Cleveland. There’s murmurs that Bynum just flat
