The NBA holiday shopping season is upon us a little early this year. It usually starts December 15, the first day players who were signed in the offseason become eligible to be traded. But after seeing Rudy Gay’s immovable contract somehow sent from Toronto to Sacramento, it is clear that shopping season is under way. Come next Sunday, NBA general managers will have increased flexibility when looking to improve their rosters, which was Kings GM Pete D’Alessandro’s approach in acquiring Gay, or their payroll,
Tweet of the Night: Stephen Curry wonders if Russell Westbrook’s game-winning 3-pointer is legit
Just when the Golden State Warriors finally seemed to put away the Oklahoma City Thunder for an impressive 112-110 overtime victory on the road, Russell Westbrook happened. After somehow tapping away a Jermaine O’Neal rebound on Serge Ibaka’s missed shot with about 6.4 seconds remaining in the game, Westbrook saw Thabo Sefolosha jump into the stands to save the ball from going out of bounds and made himself available for the catch. He then went to the 3-point line and launched
Hubbard: Thunder still making some noise
In Oklahoma City, the source of civic pride is never in doubt. Trying to walk or drive through the streets without seeing a Thunder sign or flag or banner is like trying to stand in Times Square without seeing a tourist. In fact, if you didn’t know any better, you would swear the name of the place is “Thunder” city rather than “Oklahoma City.” On Thursday night, NBA royalty even appeared at courtside to take in a Thunder game. Beyoncè visited the
Rookie Rankings, Week 3: Trey Burke, Shane Larkin make strong debuts
Last week, we discussed how the race for Rookie of the Year is wide open because of injuries to several of the top picks. No. 3 Otto Porter, No. 6 Nerlens Noel and No. 10 C.J. McCollum still haven’t taken the court this season. But a couple of first-round picks – both point guards – made their NBA debuts this week. On Monday, it was Dallas Mavericks guard Shane Larkin, who suffered a broken ankle in the last practice before summer league.
Tweet of the Night: NBA Players’ Reactions to Thursday Night Games
Russell Westbrook pulls up for three in the waning seconds against Golden State. You may think you know the biggest NBA fan…or, perhaps, you think you deserve that distinction yourself. Everyone has their moment, impassioned by the play of their favorite player(s) on their favorite team(s) while watching their favorite sport. Some fans are crazy and have fits of rage when their team doesn’t play to their expectations. Others, however, may be more subdued when facing . They’d
Forget the Jerseys. Check Out the Awesome NBA Christmas Commercial
By now, you’ve probably already had a peek at the jerseys NBA players will be wearing on Christmas. Yes, they have sleeves. Now, if Santa leaves one of these under your tree, you may not be so happy. They are clearly not conventional jerseys, which remain incredibly popular. And they are not quite T-shirts, either. They are somewhere in between. The sleeved jerseys are unquestionably a marketing tool. In addition to being a new item that many fans believe they have to have,
Rookie Rankings, Week 2: Injuries Make For Wide Open Race
Last season, our Rookie Rankings were a Who’s Who. This season, it’s more like a Who’s That? Just two weeks into the season, we are startled by the number of lower picks who have played their way into the rankings – or, more accurately, the number of high picks on the outside looking in. Just to make sure our imagination wasn’t playing tricks on us, we went back to the second week of the 2012-13 rankings to see the breakdown of low picks
Tweet of the Night: Matt Barnes says “I’m DONE standing up for these niggas!”
Things got tense between the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday when Blake Griffin and Serge Ibaka got tangled up near the end of the second quarter. After getting fouled by Ibaka on a shot attempt near the rim, Griffin got a hold of Ibaka’s arm and held on tight. The natural reaction by Ibaka was to set himself free from the hold, but it appeared as if he had shoved Griffin from the back in the process.
