With much of the national discourse centering on Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, the reality of the matter is that a lifetime ban and a $2.5 million fine is the limit to what NBA commissioner Adam Silver is capable of doing. The rest falls on the shoulders of 29 team owners, as they—according to the NBA’s Constitution and By-Laws—must vote with a 3/4’s majority to force the sale of the team. Players, media pundits and people all across the nation
Duncan tops Durant for Western Conference Player of the Week Honors
NEW YORK – The Spurs’ 17-game winning streak brought an added bonus Monday. Tim Duncan was named Player of the Week — this coming despite Kevin Durant averaging 32.5 points on .597 shooting. It was the 22nd time Duncan has won the award. The Orlando Magic’s Nikola Vucevic and the San Antonio Spurs’ Duncan were named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, March 24, through Sunday, March 30. Vucevic led the Magic to a 2-1 week, which
Bernucca: Among the Elite, Thunder the Team to Beat
A look at the overall NBA standings shows four teams at the top – Indiana, Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Miami – separated by one game in the loss column. In fact, they were dead even until three of them lost Sunday. Just a notch below them are three more teams – Houston, the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland – separated by two games in the loss column. They also would have been dead even had the Blazers held
Big Day For ‘The Big Diesel’, Shaquille O’Neal
There are many names for four-time NBA champion and future Hall of Fame great Shaquille O’Neal—many of which he has given himself: The Big Aristotle, The Big Galactus, Shaqtus, Diesel, Steel and Hobo Master (yes, Hobo Master) among others. Thursday O’Neal celebrated his birthday. After a long NBA career and continued success off the court, perhaps it’s time to consider a new name…perhaps The Big Father Time? As he continues to grow older, his popularity still remains. Three of the basketball organizations
Tweet of the Night: Maurice Harkless relieved to finally get a win on the road

With young players like Nikola Vucevic, Tobias Harris and Maurice Harkless all looking to improve from their unexpectedly-solid campaigns from a year ago, they very well could have been a dark horse team in the East – especially with the way things have turned out for the anemic conference. Instead,
Bernucca: Feeling the Heat, Pacers Had To Make a Move
All season, the Indiana Pacers have maintained that homecourt advantage for the Eastern Conference playoffs, and their chemistry will give them a great chance to dethrone the two-time NBA champion Miami Heat. Are both slipping away? In the last two weeks, Indiana’s grip on the East’s best record has loosened considerably. And the Pacers’ big move at Thursday’s trading deadline, acquiring Evan Turner, illustrated that their belief in chemistry may have been overstated. [Read more…]
PODCAST: Time to Stick a Fork in the Knicks?
The temptation is to stick a fork in the Knicks and pronounce them done. The reality? Even after last night’s double OT loss to the Orlando Magic, New York is 4 1/2 games out of eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 27 games remaining. That is more than enough time for them to put together something resembling a hot streak and gain enough ground to reach the No. 8 seed. [Read more…]
Tweet of the Day: Free Agent Glen Davis Thanks Magic And Fans
Friday afternoon, a day removed from the NBA trade deadline, the Orlando Magic and general manager Rob Hennigan decided the team’s future would be best without forward Glen Davis. The Magic and Davis agreed to a buyout that will enable the 28-year-old big man, affectionately known as “Big Baby,” to pursue another team via free agency once he clears waivers. After the buyout had been formalized, Davis took to Twitter to thank the Magic and its fans for his time in Orlando.
