Mark Heisler has been around the Lakers longer than most anyone in this business, he is a man of principles — and he is sticking to his guns on suggestions he offered even before the latest Lakers’ slide began. He wants Mike D’Antoni to go to a three-guard lineup, he wants Pau Gasol to come off the bench as a Sixth Man, and he thinks changes need to happen fast. [Read more…]
Sheridan: Around the NBA: Kyrie Irving will out-impact Pau Gasol
I talk to a lot of folks around the NBA, and the sense from general managers and agents is that Mitch Kupchak’s voice is being heard, and the best thing to do is stay patient and see if Pau Gasol can become a productive player again once Steve Nash returns, whenever that might be. (Remember when the Lakers said he’d be out a week? It’s now 5 going on 6). [Read more…]
Bernucca: Why are Warriors the NBA’s biggest surprise?
The best team flying under the radar has two rookies in its starting lineup. But it’s not the Charlotte Bobcats. It is missing its oft-injured big man. But it’s not the Philadelphia 76ers. It has All-Star candidates at point guard and power forward. But it’s not the Los Angeles Clippers. It is an original NBA franchise that has not won a title since the 1970s. But it’s not the New York Knicks. [Read more…]
Gibson: Bulls Should Make Mirotic Untouchable, Euroleague Heats Up
A source within an NBA front office told Sheridan Hoops he considers Real Madrid’s Nikola Mirotic to be the best NBA prospect still playing in Europe. I wholeheartedly agree, and that’s why the Bulls would be crazy to part with the Montengrin power forward in a trade for Pau Gasol, or almost anyone else. [Read more…]
SH Blog: Pau won’t be benched when he comes back
The Lakers can’t seem to buy wins right now. Tonight’s loss to the Jazz put them back to 9-12, eight back of West-leading San Antonio and Oklahoma City, and a game and a half back of eighth-place Minnesota for the last playoff spot in the conference. And yet they’re scoring 3.1 more points per game than they’re allowing, and also they have Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant. Something doesn’t seem right here. Meanwhile in the East, things are shaking out slightly
SH Blog: Thunder get back at Kobe for talking smack during the Olympics
What do you do when your two favorite teams are playing each other? That’s the dilemma I’m in tonight. I’ve decided that I’m rooting for the team that’s doing better this season, but that doesn’t make rooting against the other team much easier. Tonight’s big game is probably Knicks-Bulls, but the NBA’s best team, the Memphis Grizzlies, are in action as well against the Hawks. Here on Sheridan Hoops, we’ve got Charley Rosen with (hopefully) the last word on the Phil
SH Blog: Durant wants to join the 50-40-90 club, Howard yells at Bryant
Remember back in 2010, when Kenny Smith boldly claimed that Kevin Durant would be the best basketball player in the NBA in three years? It sounded pretty crazy then, mostly because of the guy that just won Sportsman of the Year, along with just about everything else you could possibly win over the past calendar year as a basketball player. What separated LeBron James from Durant back then was his ability to create for others on offense, something the Thunder forward had
Jamal Crawford, Moke Hamilton and Doug Smith on SHRadio
Jamal Crawford is coming on our radio show today, and I am going to blindside him with a trivia question that should be right up his alley. We’ll see how he does. Also coming on are Doug Smith of the Toronto Star and our own Moke Hamilton, who is one of the only guys in New York covering both the Knicks and the Nets. Enjoy the show.
