On Thursday night, Al Horford was named as a reserve for the Eastern Conference All-Star team. Also chosen as reserves were teammates Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap. But, instead of being with those teammates to celebrate their selections, Horford was hanging out with another teammate at a movie premiere. [Read more…]
Bernucca: Who Deserves to be an All-Star Reserve?
Every team wants a player in the NBA All-Star Game. Just this week, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban complained that the voting system is “absolutely, positively broken” and lobbied for the NBA to provide additional roster spots for reserves who may have been overlooked by the fans. His reasoning was that leading vote-getter Stephen Curry received a mere 1.5 million votes, which is a miniscule total when you consider the global, electronic balloting process. As he often does, Cuban made some good
Marks: Surging Hawks, “Spurs of the East,” Can’t Stop Winning
PHILADELPHIA – There are worse things to be called. So, yes, it’s okay to use the “S” word when you’re talking about the Atlanta Hawks, a team virtually no one has noticed most of this season, and whose dearth of national TV appearances has already been covered on this site. ATLANTA — The Cavs may have to re-purpose an old Alfred Lord Tennyson quote: “‘Tis better to have [Kevin] Love and lost than to never have Love at all.” Not quite what Tennyson had in mind, but one might have asked such a question after the dismal performance the Cleveland power forward gave prior to leaving Tuesday’s marquee Eastern Conference matchup with the Atlanta Hawks. Love made only one of eight shots — a three-pointer — and hit four free throws for
Fantasy Spin: Jazz Can Pay Off Without Winning
My advice here is always free, and last night it wasn’t worth it. Who can predict a scoreless game for DeMar DeRozan (groin) or a 27-point night from Marreese Speights without Marty McFly’s sports book from the future? [Read more…]
Fantasy Spin: Run, DMC
Monday was a strange night in the NBA. The lowly Nuggets, blown out the day before, shocked the previously red-hot Cavs in Cleveland. Pau Gasol (calf) and Derrick Rose (hamstring) didn’t play, but the Bulls beat the Clippers anyway, thanks to Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler. [Read more…]
