Tuesday night’s showdown between the Knicks and Lakers was a bit one-sided. The New York Knicks, who had been surging towards the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with a recent string of eight straight wins, have (seemingly) fallen flat on their faces. If their recent fourth-quarter collapse against the hapless (and Kyrie Irving-less) Cleveland Cavaliers wasn’t bad enough, they travelled to Los Angeles for a shellacking at the hands of the short-handed Lakers. Tweet of the Day: New NBA-Themed Commercials Abound
Many of today’s NBA athletes have endorsements with major corporations that often require them to be featured in a television commercial. A lot of them have their predecessors to thank for having broadened the reach of the NBA’s global marketing arm. Greats like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were prominently featured in high profile marketing campaigns during their playing careers. Recently, with such bold personalities like four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal, the door for retired NBA athletes to continue marketing
Tweet of the Night: Reggie Miller can’t believe Knicks fail to call timeout against Wizards in final seconds
The New York Knicks have lost plenty of games this season in a variety of devastating ways, but Monday’s loss to the Washington Wizards at home may take the cake for the worst loss of the season. New York got off to a slow start and was down 53-42 at half time. John Wall went off in the first half with 19 points, but a determined Knicks team came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. They held Wall
Tweet of the Night: Matt Barnes says “I’m DONE standing up for these niggas!”
Things got tense between the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday when Blake Griffin and Serge Ibaka got tangled up near the end of the second quarter. After getting fouled by Ibaka on a shot attempt near the rim, Griffin got a hold of Ibaka’s arm and held on tight. The natural reaction by Ibaka was to set himself free from the hold, but it appeared as if he had shoved Griffin from the back in the process.
Tweet of the Night: Reggie Miller likes the Hack-A-Howard strategy
When in doubt, Hack-A-Dwight. Dwight Howard’s free throw shooting down the stretch of close games this season is starting to become a serious issue for the Houston Rockets. Of course, this is no surprise. Howard is a career 57.6 percent shooter from the stripe, but has shot below 50 percent over the past two seasons. He struggled once again against the Toronto Raptors on Monday, going four-of-12 from the line to drop to 47 percent on the season – staggeringly bad for
Tweet of the Day: Finally Official, Allen Iverson Is Retired
We knew this day was coming. Allen Iverson, affectionately known around the NBA and its fans as “The Answer,” hasn’t played a professional game since January 8, 2011. Yet, anytime he walks in front of the media and a microphone, it is bound to be an emotional experience. Such was the case Wednesday as Iverson officially announced his retirement. The NBA tweeted the announcement. [Read more…]
Tweet of the Night: Reggie Miller explains why Greg Oden will be great for the Miami Heat
The Brooklyn Nets became one of the strongest teams on paper over the offseason when they acquired Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Andrei Kirilenko and company. The Indiana Pacers will look to be even better and deeper than last season with the return of Danny Granger, the signing of Luis Scola and other respectable pieces. The New York Knicks, if nothing else, also became a little more interesting with the acquisition of Andrea Bargnani. The goals for all these top Eastern
Tweet of the Night: Reggie Miller trolls report that Pelicans want to sign Tyreke Evans to four-year deal
Put Tyreke Evans among the list of guards out of the 2009 Draft to be looking at a four-year, $40-plus million offer. Although it came a season after his peers like Jrue Holiday, Stephen Curry and Ty Lawson, Evans was offered a very lucrative deal late on Monday (to the surprise of many) to join the New Orleans Pelicans. The question is this: is he worth or deserving of such a deal? Evans showed much promise as a rookie, when he joined LeBron James
