Forget small ball. The NBA’s best team plays bully ball. The Memphis Grizzlies don’t have a fleet of sharpshooters standing on the arc. They don’t have a stretch 4. They don’t have a dual point guard backcourt. Heck, their shooting guard can’t even shoot. [Read more…]
SH Blog: Kidd’s efficiency at the SG slot propels Knicks
The New York Knicks are off to an overwhelmingly positive start, and it would be hard to say anybody saw this coming. New York has the oldest roster in NBA history combined with Amar’e Stoudemire, the $20 million per year power forward who is supposed to be the second-most offensively potent player on the team, out for an extended period of time. The team came into this season with an aged roster and skepticism looming over them from the outside. [Read
Mavericks suspend Delonte West indefinitely again
Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West has been suspended indefinitely by the team for the second time this preseason. He was first suspended indefinitely early last week by coach Rick Carlisle for “conduct detrimental to the team”, but was reinstated the following day and did not miss any games. That may not be the case the second time around. Here is the report from Mavericks press release: DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have indefinitely suspended guard Delonte West. “We have suspended
Five reasons to feel positive about the Dallas Mavericks
(This is another in a series of 30 guest columns that will run in October, when optimism reigns supreme across the NBA. The theme will be “Five Reasons to Feel Positive About … ” We encourage you to follow the authors on Twitter and visit their sites. – CS) The early portion of the free agency period gave off the appearance that the sky was literally falling on the Dallas Mavericks. SH Blog: Carmelo ready to play power forward, Barkley dislikes Lakers offense
When LeBron James made his move to the power forward position last season, things changed drastically – in a championship winning way – for the Heat. Another three that is capable of playing the four – and creating havoc in the process – is New York Knicks forward Carmelo
Bernucca: Do injuries to Love, Nowitzki change West playoff picture?
When we wrote last month that the Western Conference playoff picture would be filled in by the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves, it was assumed that both teams would have their alpha dogs at power forward. Now that Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Love are both out until at least December, that picture could be changing. Nowitzki and Love both are top-10 players whose presence instantly legitimizes their teams as playoff-worthy, regardless of the other 14 players sharing a locker room and airplane with them.
Bernucca: What the preseason has shown us so far
Even for hoops addicts, watching NBA preseason games presents a challenge. The baseball playoffs are under way, the college football and NFL seasons are in full swing, and there is this small matter of a presidential election. There is no subscription package for the preseason. League Pass takes a pass until the regular season starts later this month. So the only way you can watch games right now is on NBA TV, which isn’t part of the basic package of a number
Hubbard: Mavs season will be a Grand Experiment
DALLAS – The grand experiment begins today with the first day of training camp. Call Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson and Rick Carlisle crazy, but they believe they have found an alternative recipe for championship success. 1. Take a superstar who may be starting to decline but still is near the top of his game. 2. Add a one-time prolific offensive player who has discovered the joy of defense. 3. Toss in a point guard from Indiana, a shooting guard from Memphis, a center from
