It was a performance the entire league was talking about. The prolific scoring forward was going off, just knocking down jump shot after jump shot, rarely subjecting the ball to even the slightest graze of the rim. He had 20, then 30, then 40, and there was still plenty of time left in the fourth quarter. He was at NBA Jam levels of On Fire, replete with the flaming basketball and the echoed enthusiasm of the announcers. It was the type of game that
It’s Gotta Be The Pizza: Isaiah Thomas Leads Most Improved Player Rankings
If you haven’t seen Lance Stephenson’s All-Star video, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with it before we begin this column. I’ll wait. For the rest of you—nice weather we’ve been having, right? Yeah. So, you come here often? I hope so. We’ve got some pretty cool stuff here. It’s a nice website. OK– you’ve seen it? So that was pretty cool, right? It reminded me of the old Michael Jordan-Mars Blackmon commercials. [Read more…]
Tweet of the Night: Isaiah Thomas emphasizes what’s most important on the floor
Not unlike seasons of recent past, the Sacramento Kings are one of the worst teams in the league. Despite a career year from DeMarcus Cousins and despite a mid-season trade that brought in the topical Rudy Gay, the Kings are just 14-25 on the season – second worst in the Western Conference. If there is one positive to take away from another season headed for the lottery (other than a lottery pick), it’s the breakout year that 5’9″ guard Isaiah Thomas
Bledsoe’s Injury Leaves Most Improved Player Rankings Wide Open
As the great Jerry Seinfeld once said, knowing George Costanza was like taking a walk through the jungle. He didn’t know what he was going to find next, and he was real scared. I feel the same way about this NBA season. All of the injuries – Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Jrue Holiday, Brook Lopez, and now Most Improved Player favorite Eric Bledsoe – have basketball fans treading lightly, hoping not to get eaten by a tarantula or something with
Bernucca: Grading the Trades That Have Already Been Made
Since training camp opened, there have been five significant trades involving 10 teams, 19 players and seven draft picks. The big winners have been a team that got rid of the highest scorer among the traded players and a team that acquired a player who has yet to play. The big loser has been a team that swears by analytics. Another way to look at it is like this: The biggest trades thus far have been the ones that haven’t been made
Anthony, Cousins win Player of the Week honors
NEW YORK – The New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and the Sacramento Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins today were named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for games played Monday, Jan. 6, through Sunday, Jan. 12. Anthony led the Knicks to a 3-0 week which included wins over the Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers. He ranked second in the conference in scoring (27.0 ppg) and steals (2.33 spg) and third in minutes (39.2 mpg). Anthony connected on 12-of-24
Tweet of the Night: Kings Win Third Straight, Rout Cavs In Sacramento
Both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings came into Sunday’s contest at Sleep Train Arena looking to build off of back-to-back wins. The Cavaliers were coming off of two blowout victories over the Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz, both coming after the big trade for Luol Deng. While not facing the stiffest competition, the move certainly seemed to rally the Cavs on the court this week and give them new life for the second half of the season. [Read more…]
PODCAST: Is DeMarcus Cousins an All-Star?
The title of this post says it all: Is DeMarcus Cousins an All-Star? Well, I’ll say this — as I say below in my interview with Grant Napear of KHTK Radio in Sacramento — he is certainly an All-Star talent, and I have even given him an All-NBA third team vote in the past. But then I’ll also ask you this: Is Gordan Hayward an All-Star? Again, the Jazz shotmeister is certainly an All-Star talent, but an All-Star? I’ll leave that for the
