One year after falling two games short of the NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs found redemption in the Western Conference Finals after sweeping the Memphis Grizzlies 4-0 Monday night. Tony Parker, frequently lauded as the league’s most forgotten superstar, scored 37 points in the clinching game, which the Spurs won 93-86. Nobody believes he’s a star, but game-after-game, year-after-year, these Spurs are still riding him into the final days of May. [Read more…]
TOTD: Atlanta Hawks make big announcement.
Tuesday afternoon, while everyone was either lauding the San Antonio Spurs (after their series sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies) or perpetuating the hype machine behind the Miami Heat (preceding their Game 4 contest against the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse), the Atlanta Hawks and general manager Danny Ferry made a move to improve the future of their franchise. The Hawks hired a new head coach.

StatBox Playoff Breakdown: Memphis Grizzlies face franchise-defining questions
The Memphis Grizzlies undoubtedly had a successful season, but a sweep at the hands of the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals leaves at least several questions that need to be answered and addressed. Should Memphis do anything with Zach Randolph? His playoff numbers declined pretty dramatic over Memphis’ three postseason rounds, leaving the team with an incredibly sour taste about ZBo going into the future. Hubbard: Tony Parker is NBA’s Best Point Guard
After extensive research and deep thought, I have determined the responsible parties in the conspiracy to devalue the career of San Antonio’s Tony Parker. He is, you might have often read and heard, underrated and not appreciated – not, at least, as one of the best point guards of the past decade. When discussions of the great NBA point guards are in progress, Parker has been an afterthought. Maybe that changes now, after Parker’s 37 points led the San Antonio Spurs
Tweet of the Night: Jared Dudley expects Spurs-Heat series
The “old” trio of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili just don’t seem to know when to quit. With a surprising sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals on Monday, the San Antonio Spurs will head to the NBA Finals for the first time since the 2006-2007 season, when they swept LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bernucca: Spurs, Heat showing championships are won on the road
The Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers have gotten this far in the postseason by winning at home. But the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat are going to the NBA Finals by winning on the road. The Grizzlies and Pacers were very good home teams in the regular season. Memphis was 32-9 and lost just once at FedEx Forum after Feb. 8. Indiana was 30-11 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and went more than two months early in the season without a home
Tweet of the Night: Spurs Game 3 reaction
The four-time NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs made a statement in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals with a 104-93 victory in Memphis. That statement might as well have been one of those old clichés like “never underestimate the heart of a champion.” Spurs—new and old—expressed their enthusiasm on Twitter after the game.
