Be it a fine or a suspension, we knew something big and bad was coming from commissioner David Stern. He had no choice but to do something significant after apologizing to the fans for what Gregg Popovich did and promising “substantial sanctions” against the San Antonio Spurs just before the start of their contest against the Miami Heat on Thursday. There were no suspensions of any kind, but Stern hit the Spurs organization with a hefty fine of $250,000 on Friday. Here

NEW YORK – The NBA announced today that the San Antonio Spurs organization has been fined $250,000 for its decision to send four players (Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Danny Green) home prior to the Spurs’ Nov. 29 game in Miami. According to his job description, David Stern is supposed to be totally neutral and impartial. Except for possibly desiring a big-market rather than small-market team to advance to the NBA Finals, who wins and who loses shouldn’t be something that concerns the commissioner.
