The round of 64 began on Thursday and outside of the PAC-12’s success as a 12 seed and Harvard earning their first ever tournament win, upsets were at a minimum. On a very light night in the NBA, the three games on the schedule saw one upset, as the Blazers won on the road in Chicago, but the Sixers blew their chance to snap the Nuggets win streak and perform their own “bracket buster”. Welcome to another episode of Five Fast Facts.
Fantasy Planner Week 21: Play Marc Gasol and Eric Bledsoe, Avoid Sixers and Deng
For fantasy basketball owners this is the most exciting time of the season. This long and tenuous regular season is finally reaching a conclusion. It is my experience that nearly every season for nearly every league, at least one dominant power-house fantasy team falls apart during the last couple weeks before playoffs due to injuries. The NBA season is unlike that of any other professional sport. The postseason ends in June yet the preseason starts in October. The grind for NBA
Fantasy Spin: Aldridge (31) Keeps Blazers’ Playoff Hopes Alive; Hawes Leads Sixers
Another huge game by LaMarcus Aldridge (31 PTS, 12 REB, 3 AST) and another gutsy performance by Nicolas Batum (17 PTS, 6 AST, 5 REB, 3 BLK) led the Blazers, who remain alive for a playoff berth, though they are three games back with just 17 remaining. [Read more…]
Fantasy Spin: Spurs Silence Thunder; Kyrie Irving Out For Weeks
It’s that time of year in fantasy hoops. When a player gets injured, there’s a risk of them being shut down entirely. I happened to be at the game where Kyrie Irving got hurt, and after he shot two free throws — using only his ‘wrong’ hand — stood to applaud his exit without knowing that a sprained left shoulder will keep him out for the next month, if not the rest of the year. For football fans, the term Super Sunday is a familiar one. Super Sunday is the day on which the Super Bowl is held. Of course, you’ve probably heard all about the Super Bowl already: the Ravens winning 34-31 over the 49ers, the 34-minute blackout in the Superdome and the Pepsi-sponsored Beyoncé halftime show. What you wouldn’t have heard about would be the festivities that happened at random Super Bowl parties around the globe. Philadelphia 76ers center Spencer Hawes tweeted a link to an

College football’s “Rivalry Weekend” is a great distraction from Black Friday sales and waiting in long lines at stores. The last and final weekend of the college football regular season is oftentimes the most important weekend of the year for some fans—as their team faces their most hated rival. Philadelphia 76ers center Spencer Hawes knows what it’s all about. As a college athlete, he played for the Washington Huskies. This week the Huskies face off against the in-state rival Washington State Cougars.
Spurs Rally; Nuggets Win in Double OT; MKG Shines
In the game of the night, Gary Neal scored a career-high 27 points to lead a furious Spurs comeback. Manu Ginobili (17) had his best game yet, and even without Tony Parker (illness) they scored 39 fourth-quarter points to prevail. For the Blazers, Nicolas Batum (33) and LaMarcus Aldridge (29) were terrific in defeat and rookie Damian Lillard added 20 points, but the Portland bench is really, really bad — they were outscored 63-4 by the San Antonio reserves.
