Toward the end of the film “Se7en,” two detectives are driving a serial killer to a supposed location of one of the killer’s victims. The serial killer, played by Kevin Spacey, tries to convince the detectives of the lasting importance of his acts. One of the detectives, played by Brad Pitt, dismisses the serial killer’s claims by saying, “You’re a T-shirt. You’re a Movie of the Week.” That pretty much sums up Jeremy Lin. [Read more…]
Fantasy Three R’s: Ricky Rubio Returns
It’s been a long nine months for Ricky Rubio, his fantasy owners and my fellow Wolves fans. Limited to 19 minutes, he scored 8 PTS, handed out 9 AST — some of them dazzling — and made 3 STL. [Read more…]
Road Warriors Win Again; Tony Parker Triple-Double Leads Spurs
As Chris Bernucca said in his must-read column yesterday, the best team flying under the radar is the Golden State Warriors. What Mark Jackson’s team is doing in the real NBA is amazing; our job is to interpret their value in fantasy hoops. [Read more…]
Bernucca: Influenced by national TV money, Stern shows he is just a casual fan
David Stern is disingenuous. How’s that for one of those million-dollar words that the NBA commissioner loves to use when talking to the hoi polloi about basketball? In slapping the San Antonio Spurs with a $250,000 fine for resting their trio of stars in a nationally televised game, Stern said in his customary, quite lawyerly fashion, “The result here is dictated by the totality of the facts in this case.” [Read more…]
Rested Spurs Win OT Thriller; Heat Stays Hot At Home
It’s pretty hard to fault Gregg Popovich, unless you’re David Stern. Pop’s controversial decision to sit four starters in Miami on Thursday seemed to pay off two nights later, as Tony Parker (30 points, 6 assists) and Tim Duncan (27 PTS, 15 REB) were outstanding. [Read more…]
Spurs fined 250K by NBA
NEW YORK – The NBA announced today that the San Antonio Spurs organization has been fined $250,000 for its decision to send four players (Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Danny Green) home prior to the Spurs’ Nov. 29 game in Miami. The Spurs’ actions were in violation of a league policy, reviewed with the NBA Board of Governors in April 2010, against resting players in a manner contrary to the best interests of the NBA. NBA Commissioner David Stern stated: “The
Perkins: Only TNT is entitled to be mad at Popovich
MIAMI – Those weren’t the San Antonio Spurs that visited AmericanAirlines Arena and lost to the Miami Heat, 105-100, on Thursday. But that doesn’t give you reason to hate. We all know those weren’t the real Spurs, not the team that’s won four titles with its Big Three of forward Tim Duncan and guards Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. They were all in San Antonio, chillin’, relaxin’. [Read more…]
Rosen: Popovich v. Stern: Who wears the dunce cap?
According to his job description, David Stern is supposed to be totally neutral and impartial. Except for possibly desiring a big-market rather than small-market team to advance to the NBA Finals, who wins and who loses shouldn’t be something that concerns the commissioner. However, I absolutely guarantee that Stern was passionately rooting for Miami to beat San Antonio in Thursday night’s already infamous M.I.A. game. [Read more…]
