Missing two key players in the starting lineup in Nene Hilario and Martell Webster on Monday, John Wall needed to come up big for the Washington Wizards against the Denver Nuggets, who were also playing without Ty Lawson. Wall led all scorers with 20 points and stuffed the stat sheet with five rebounds, eight assists, three steals and one impressive block on Kenneth Faried. However, he managed to shoot just eight-of-20 from the field and turned the ball over four times.
Parity \ˈper-ə-tē\ — the quality or state of being equal or equivalent. Parity is what most professional sports leagues strive for. Parity, or competitive balance in the case of sports, is good for business. It means games are competitive. It gives fans—of all teams—hope and reason to fill arena seats. Losing to the Philadelphia 76ers apparently makes folks lose their cool. After Friday’s loss to the surprising 76ers, Wizards coach Randy Wittman lost his and was fined $20,000 by the NBA on Monday. The fine was announced by NBA president of basketball operations Rod Thorn. Wittman was fined for using profane language in his comments following a 109-102 loss in the team’s home opener.
